Also when turning something to curves, like letters, it seems there are two parts now. I used to be able to break an anchor, to a letter, lets say, and as I deleted the anchors, the two parts of the letter, would be truly disconnected. Now the letter stays connected, regardless of breaking it; how I have no idea. Workflow is seriously impeded. What is going on? Out of all of them, Affinity Designer on the iPad has proven itself to be a workhorse.
I have put it through the fire, doing some annotated Concept Drawings on the iPad, and it worked with no problems whatsoever. I especially like the fact that the controls were quite similar to the Desktop version, which made it easy for me to navigate between the Personas.
All files are native Affinity files that can be seen not just on the Mac, but also on the iPad. The key, though, is to make sure that you work on one platform at a time to ensure your work carries over between platforms.
Aside from that, this app has performed very well, with no issues thus far, and with no crashes. Kudos to the makers of Affinity Designer for doing a great job of creating an app that just works, and performs very well, especially with the Apple Pencil!

It gives beginner and pro artists alike the tools they need to create highly detailed and scalable drawings—whether for a company logo, website mock-up, or home-renovation plan. This app was awesome but now after I updated to the new update for iOS 14 I feel like some stuff doesnt work.
The node tool is suppose to change it but I can only select it. The selection tool also doesnt do anything. I have to change off of it to do anything. EDIT: So it seems that on one of the things I was working on before and after the update was having the problem. Maybe the update just needed time? One thing I m wondering though is if a shortcut or another way to input trademark and things like it logos. I tried doing it I have an iPad and it just disappears when inputted.
Very sorry to hear that you have faced all these issues with text editing in the latest app version. I tried to reproduce them on our end, but no luck, everything works perfectly. I can easily select the anchor points and resize the text box using the Selection tool. That’s why I have to ask for your help. Could you please get in touch via email support vectornator.
Please stay in touch with us, we would like to help. I just found this app about 2 months ago and love it. The ability to have multiple art boards open is a huge benefit over Inkscape. I just custom made two fonts two versions of two fonts over the past two weeks. This was because the font making program was not easy to use but could import SVG files for the fonts. Had about art boards open at one time for about characters.
Unfortunately i want to embed the fonts and may need to use Word which does not play nice with SVG files. Looking for a workaround now. I just read the review from 6 months ago who said this was too complex. It took me a day to figure out to unclick the fill and only use the stroke to quickly create shapes and lines like I used to do in MS word.

DawidXT Posted May Posted May Hi guys! I’m attaching the screenshot Perhaps I am doing something wrong?
 More sharing options EmT Posted May Unfortunately this is not a export option for the Affinity apps.
DawidXT Like Loading Illustrator: Get a 7 day free trial. But not by far, and less experienced users may not notice the difference. Try the latest version of Illustrator with a seven-day free trial.
It may also be the better option for many buyers, depending on which functions are important to them. You can download a free 10 day trial of Affinity Designer from the Affinity Website. The key element of any vector software, the node editor, is both relatively similar and fairly simple for both; nodes can be added either individually and specifically with the pen tool or in a more freehand manner with the straightforwardly-named freehand tool.
Vector lines can be modified either by clicking and dragging or by using vector point levers, depending on your goal. Illustrator has a lot of additional features that are text based, and considering the importance of text in graphic design, for many this will be the match point.
One of the features where Affinity Designer wins over Illustrator, however, is in its grid functions. There are grid plugins available for Illustrator, but these add an extra cost to an already pricey piece of software. One key element missing from Affinity Designer is a vector tracing tool. Crucial to some and utterly useless to others, there are several who will miss it if they switch. In recent updates, Illustrator has also brought in a whole host of new 3D tools, including the ability to apply 3D effects to vector artwork and the ability to map vector artwork over 3D objects.
Illustrator is definitely the winner when it comes to compatibility. Affinity Designer only saves in its own format —. It can export files to a wide range of formats, but the risk in exporting to other formats is always that elements may be lost in translation, so that exported.
AI files from Affinity Designer may arrive at the printer with missing or altered layers, making proofs even more important than normal. Both programs use similar shortcut keys, with the option to modify them to suit your preferences, which makes transitioning between programs relatively simple.
On the negative side, however, Affinity Designer lacks plugins, of which Illustrator has hundreds, ranging from map-rendering to packaging design.
Considering that Adobe Illustrator is the most commonly used vector graphics application, having the ability to save as AI with Affinity Designer is crucial. Believe it or not, not being able to save as AI with Affinity Designer is not the end of the world. This means that they can be created using any vector software. Examples of editable vector formats that can be opened and edited with Illustrator — or any vector software for that matter — are as follows:. They read somewhere that they should have a file that ends in.
What do we do? The good news is that, with a little smoke and mirrors, you can generate a file that looks and behaves just like an AI file, and nobody would know the difference! In the export menu, make sure to choose 72 from the Raster DPI dropdown. This is because 72 is the native dpi that Illustrator operates in.
This will ensure that the sizes and dimensions of your design will remain consistent when opened with Illustrator. As for the rest of the settings, you can leave everything else unchecked. The screenshot above depicts the ideal settings to use. In fact, the Illustrator format is essentially a glorified PDF document. Changing our PDF document to an AI format is a matter of simply changing the extension of the file by renaming it. Open a folder in Windows, then look for where it says View at the top of the window and click on it to expand the view options.
Enable the preset that reads File name extensions. This will make it so that the file extensions are now displayed with the file name, making it easy to change. Once changed, you will now have a makeshift Illustrator file for your design that you created in Affinity Designer, and nobody will know the difference! As a side note, this also works in reverse. This is okay though. This is also true for a file that you save as AI with Affinity Designer.
For the most part, the properties and attributes of your design — like colors, gradients, text, etc. However, more advanced features that are specific to Affinity Designer may not transfer over as well. Some examples of such are as follows:.
At the end of the day though, the only way to ensure that a design will be completely editable and functional in Illustrator is to create it with Illustrator. However, if it helps in placating a client, then simply generating a PDF file and changing its file extension should do the trick.
