Garmin MapSource is a shareware software download filed under mapping and made available by Garmin for Windows. The review for Garmin MapSource has not been completed yet, but it was tested by an editor here on a PC. Garmin MapSource is software that lets you create, view, and edit waypoints, routes, and tracks on your computer and transfer them to your navigation device for your next trip.

Instead, use BaseCamp to view maps and create routes and waypoints for your next hiking, biking, motorcycling, driving or off-roading trip. And for your next boating trip, pair HomePort with your existing BlueChart data and view map details such as underwater hazards and hidden obstacles so you can plan a route to avoid them.

MapSource trip-planning software has never contained actual map data, but in the past, our map products used to include the MapSource brand name. We have since dropped the MapSource brand name from map products.

Just follow the guides Garmin has on their own homepage. Attention – version 4. Best download the current Garmin Basecamp version from Garmin – I have attached here some older working versions should Garmin introduce some bugs to newer versions again.

Download Garmin Software from Gawisp. Mac OSx — Garmin Basecamp 4. Garmin MapInstall 4. MapInstall 4. Attention – I do not recommend to use Mapsource anymore except for sending maps to older generation devices! Basically to all devices that only support a single gmapsupp. Also it will display you a list of all selected tiles – this can be useful for debugging though normal users don’t need this. The search function is actually much better than the Basecamp search function – but for general use I don’t think that makes it worth-wile to stick to Mapsource.

The most popular is still Garmin Mapsource – even though it is superseeded by Garmin Basecamp and also Qlandkarte GT is on the way to overtake it. Garmin Mapsource is not develloped anymore, but version 6. There is a catch however. Garmin only provides updates, no actual installation packages. Therfore below I describe two ways how you can install Mapsource legally nevertheless. I recommend to use the most uptodate version by Garmin as of writing this is 6.

Earlier versions of Mapsource also 6. Use at least 6. Note that while Basecamp shows contourlines, Garmin Mapsource doesn’t. Hence for general use I recommend Garmin Basecamp instead. I currently use the mapset for Australia but would also like to access the mapset for Great Britain from the same instance of Basecamp.

If I downloaded and installed mtbgreat-britain. In Basecamp if you have several maps installed you can select the maps with the map selector toolbar. I am facing the with overlapping map in border region. So currently I choose the specific tiles via mapinstall fitting to my hometrails reachable for a day trip.

Overall the Europe map looks to big to me. What I would prefer is only to download the maps I really need and merge the ones causing issues with overlapping.

Other option I was thinking about is to have presets for the tiles choosen. But would be my second option as it would still need to download full Europe. Or any other proposal? I hope in Spring this will change — either I will offer a new mechanism — or split Europe into overlapping parts.
